However, uni jobs in Korea are not easy to come by, especially since Korea has had one of the lowest birth rates in the world for the past couple of decades.The result is that in the coming years, there will be fewer and fewer positions for university teachers in Korea.

A Master’s Degree
A few years ago, it was possible to get a university job in South Korea with only a BA. Those days, however, seem to be long gone and standards are increasing with each passing year. Even those who got grandfathered in and hired without a Master’s should be a bit fearful of losing their jobs. An MA is the best resource you can have to get yourself a university job in South Korea.
Teaching Experience
You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone these days who is getting hired in Korean universities without any teaching experience, particularly with adults. So, if you’re serious about getting the job, get those all important 2 years of experience teaching in a university (or high school students/adults at the very least), even if means working at a crappy job of some kind, such as a unigwon. Then, you’ll be golden to compete for the better university jobs.

Most universities require in-person interviews. I did a poll a few months ago on Foreign Teachers in Korean Universities and around 85% of people had to do this. The others got hired from abroad or in-country with a Skype interview, or at the last-minute with no interview at all (remember: we live in the land of the bbali bbali). The best way to be here for interviews is to work at a public school or hagwon for a year.

Connections
As with any job search, the more well-connected you are, the better off you’ll be. In Korea, it’s even more-so and it seems like all the last-minute jobs get filled through word of mouth simply because there isn’t time to advertise and wade through applications. A great place to start making some professional connections is KOTESOL. It’s best to join your local chapter, or get involved with something like the conference committee because you’ll be able to form meaningful relationships with people.
A Bit of Luck
Here’s the thing with luck-it most often comes to those who are working hard and doing all the right things. “Luck” usually does not come to those who are sitting at home watching TV. It comes to those are putting themselves out there in the world, meeting people and making those all important connections. Anyway, what I’m saying is that you should make your own luck by hustling.
