Chapter 4 of 2011's Embodied Resistance: Challenging the Norms, Breaking the Rules is titled 'Becoming a Female-to-Male Transgender (FTM) in South Korea' and is the first academic work I've found that focuses on transgender issues in Korea. Written by Tari Youngjung Na and Hae Yeon Choo, it starts on page 48 and can be found on Google Books.
The authors collected information from 11 self-identified FTMs and three LGBT supporters of the transgender community. The article focuses on resistance and subjection in the lives of South Korea FTMs, including transgender rights within the institutions of law, and the pursuit of community. Definitely a good read.
