Keimyung & Yeungnam Universities, Daegu

Yeungnam University

I've always felt that Daegu is a little lacking for nature, maybe it's were I live, surrounded by industrial complexes and 24 hour BBQ joint, or perhaps it's that my previous homes in South Korea had much more greenery close by than I currently enjoy. Eitherways last spring, before humidity and jangma (장마 - rainy season) attacked I ventured out in search of mother earth.

I've quickly come to realise that the larger university campuses in Korea can be some of the most lovely places for wandering, at the right times of the year they are lush with flowers and well-maintained green spots. Compared to public parks they are generally quiet as well, very few cars, no chicken-delivery bikes, almost no loud-mouthed brats screaming for candy...specially at the weekends.

With spring fighting its way out of the box I recommend taking a trip to one the campuses when Duryu Park becomes unbearably infested with humans and motorcycles. (Check the bottom of this blog for directions n'such)

Pro-tip: Being that these are student hives, the surrounding areas are teaming with cheap but delicious restaurants, good coffee shops, nice pubs etc...spend a day yeah?

Keimyung University

 How to get there:

Yeungnam Univerity:

Go to Yeungnam Univerity Station (Green Line/Line 2 - End of the road)
Exit from Exit 3 or 4
You have arrived at your destination.

Keimyung University:

Go to Keimyung University Station (Green Line/Line 2)
Exit from Exit 1
Walk straight for five minutes.
Turn left at the impressive front gates.

PS, As far as not being a student goes, I've never had any trouble walking in and around these campuses, just give a friendly and 'hello' to the guard, walk like you belong, and don't be a prick.

Soundtrack:

Volcano! - Africa Just Wants To Have Fun

Spring soundtrack playlist track 3...
