As I briefly mentioned the other day, I went to Show! Music Core (쇼! 음악중심) on Saturday. Seizethenamjas scored tickets through a friend and was sweet enough to invite me. (We really are the lucky ones!) It was a mad rush for me to get there after work, but I’m so glad I went. I’ve seen a lot of Korean television shows but not really understood how they worked. This was a way to get a close-up look at the inner-workings of K-pop and Korean media.
For those that don’t know, Show! Music Core is a South Korean music television program broadcast by MBC. It airs live here every Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The show has the country’s top performers sing their current hit live on stage. It is currently hosted by 노홍철, 김소현, and SHINee’s 최민호.
The show is advertised as showing the country’s top hits live, but… they were lip-syncing. And since we could see the screens that were being broadcasted, we could see that sometimes the screens televised didn’t match what we were watching live (e.g. they weren’t wearing the same clothes or performing the same dance). Essentially, sometimes (or most of the time) the performers were just playing around on stage for their own and fan amusement. Interesting. Just a peak into how those performances are always made to look so polished, I suppose.
Security was very tight. Photos were not allowed. I took some sneaky photos, but if caught, the photos would have immediately been deleted and I risked being escorted out. Even within the building itself, we were taken from location to location.
Psy didn’t show up. Now, knowing more about the show, I understand why he didn’t, and probably wouldn’t ever show up to perform for this show. I did get to see all the members of SHINee, 4minute, Teen Top, Davinci, Infinite, K.Will, 이하이, Girls day, Juniel, History, Geeks, and ElectroBoys perform their current top hit.
While it wasn’t a concert, it was a good time. Also, it was an excellent warm up for the 2013 Dream Concert I’m going to in two weeks!
