I think I should color-code a calendar with all the illnesses I experience in Korea. In the States, I am a person that is rarely ill. I don’t know if it has to do with the different schedule, food, or what —but I am constantly sick in Korea. I seem to monkey-bar from cold, fever, stomach flu, constipation, UTI, alcohol-induced vomiting, and random bouts of nausea and dizziness. I should be thankful that I don’t get diarrhea, but since I just mentioned that, I’ll probably wake up with that tomorrow.
I love Korea so much, but it feels like my body tries so hard to reject living here. I honestly don’t know what to do. Is there a way I can change my diet for the better? I eat pretty healthy, with mostly fruit, nuts, and the typical Korean fare for lunch and dinner. Should I start exercising again? I haven’t been exercising because I’ve wanted more sleep and/or I’m sick! Should I cancel all extracurricular activities after work and on weekends? Are there more vitamins I should be taking other than just my dailies? How much sleep do I need?
I understand that I work with children, but I’m still confused about why I am so sick here. I wash my hands a lot, but I don’t know what else I can do to protect myself from the kids’ germs. I grew up eating Korean food, so I don’t think it’s the diet. I do have an active social life back in the States, so I’m used to going out and partying on nights and weekends.
I feel so irresponsible, but apparently, I don’t know how to take care of myself. Pardon the pun, but I’m sick of being sick.
