While Jeonju's film festival only had one queer film (seriously, just one!), the Woman's Film Festival in Seoul has a whole section, Queer Rainbow, devoted to queer cinema!

The festival starts on the 24th of May, and I'll be sure to post more information on this blog as it is available, including a schedule of queer films. For now, IWFFIS' Englih website is pretty empty, but as the festival draws nearer I'm sure that will change. We do have a list of films for the Queer Rainbow section, however, so I searched for some synopses. One of the films is Korean.

A parallel revolution was born out of the feminist movement of the 1970's, coming to an end around 1995. Filmmaker Myriam Fougère takes us on a journey to meet the lesbian writers, philosophers and activists who were key players in creating a revolutionary sisterhood. From Montréal to Texas, by way of New York, Myriam encounters lesbians who chose to live only among women. US'The Maiden and the Princess
During a game of catch-the-boy-and-kiss-him, Emmy, a precocious ten-year-old, kisses another little girl, Alice. Her parents sit her down and make her call the kiss 'an accident' and Emmy is left feeling isolated and alone. She's sent a fairy tale, 'The Maiden and The Prince,' by the Grand High Council of Fairy Tale Rules and Standards, to set her down the 'right' path in life. The council assigns Hammond to narrate Emmy's story. Luckily for Emmy, Hammond often alters the morals of his stories to help children learn the lesson they truly need. Much to the chagrin of the council, Hammond uses his magical tongue and manipulates the events of Emmy's story, teaching her that she should never have to apologize for being different. (IMDB)

US'US. A Family Album
Since their invention, amateur cameras have been used to document family life. In the shaky footage of candle-blowing, lawn-watering, a new car, or a family vacation we rediscover our lives, reach new conclusions about the way we live, and glimpse what is most intangible: time. In "Us: A Family Album", we reexamine those familiar images to tell a story that proves that all family and all love is equal. (IMDB)
