So I was cleaning out my fridge..
…always a good way to start a post right?
Wrong! Ew! Anyways- fridge cleanings are good things to do. Good things- not fun things. And I came across these apples that have been sitting in here for too long. I don’t know why I generally don’t eat whole apples- maybe because when I was following my trainer’s diet for my Fitness Competitions, I wasn’t allowed to eat them, so I just haven’t reintroduced them. (After two years you kinda forget..) Anyways. I have apples.
Ones that are kinda wrinkly. Not too desirable.
So I say to myself- applesauce time!! And really, homemade applesauce is where its at. I actually brought applesauce over to Korea from Canada, because you can’t buy it here, and sometimes I like to use it in baked goods. I found that in the summer, apples are super expensive here, so I didn’t really want to make my own applesauce then.
I know there are plenty of applesauce methods out there. But I just wanted to deal with this quickly, so I made a no-cook, freezer method. And it’s so delicious that I don’t know if I would make a stove-top version next time.
And a great thing about this is its homemade- so no preservatives, no fillers, no sugars, no colours- just awesomely fresh and sweet tasting applesauce.
No Cook Sugar Free Freezer Applesauce
Ingredients:
5 apples
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon zest
1 tbsp lemon juice
Method:
1. Wash, quarter and core apples.
2. Place in a plastic bag or container.
3. Squeeze in juice, throw in zest and cinnamon and shake it up!
4. Freeze.
5. Allow apples to soften at room temp, so that you can easily peel off the peels with your fingers.
6. Throw in food processor and blitz, or mash by hand.
7. Enjoy!
*Note- I didn’t bother peeling my apples first, because I despise using a peeler, so I used this freezer peeling method. Obviously, you can peel them by hand if you want to, or if you have a handy dandy apple peeler, fly-at-her!
